Enhailer, the progressive doom metal group hailing from Akron, Ohio, have been on our radar from their very beginning. Like many bands that seem to be an instant stand-out, the core members that comprise this group have been around the block previously, in hard-working heavy groups, prior to Enhailer’s formation in 2014. They were, in fact, one of Blackseed’s first band releases, transitioning from a very much noise label.

 

Enhailer is really the complete package of a heavy band. Their style stands as they somehow cultivate colossal, progressive riffs that groove with a fortification of jazz-metal bass, and drum beats that seem to reinvent rudiments for their very own purpose, somehow amplifying it all. They are loud, and in a way, it seems you can’t listen to them at any lower of a decibel. They bring the listener all of the elements you’d expect from an experimental, metal-based sound, and then give you more.

 

Based on everything mentioned above, you’d think this ensemble would be made up of a bunch of hard-ass dudes, but the band really has simple core philosophies when it comes to making their music. Their mission is to make music that is fulfilling to them as individuals, and the cliché but authoritative creed of believing in yourself and following your dreams. Drummer Chadd Beverlin tells us, “Being a progressive band, there’s always a ton of room for experimentation. We did a ton of experimenting on our last album released in 2020 on Burnout Records. It seems as though we’ve become interested in intertwining segments of thrash and death metal into what a lot of people would consider an already progressive style of doom metal”.

 

Their first non-demo release was Grisaille in 2015 with Blackseed Records. They followed that one with the massive 18-minute EP, Dumb Enough to Care, also on Blackseed Records in 2018. This very year, they released a split with a returning Black Pyramid on Burnout Records. Covid-19 put a damper on their supporting US tour with Black Pyramid, but they intend to get to that touring once they are able to and that is going to be rad for everyone. Enhailer are taking this time to write their next release and will be in pre-production with it in the next 3-5 months.
